What is a Honeypot?

Honeypot

A honeypot is a deliberately vulnerable system or network set up to lure and trap attackers.

Security researchers and organisations use honeypots to observe attacker behaviour, gather intelligence on new attack methods, and identify vulnerabilities in real time. Honeypots can mimic actual systems to deceive attackers, making them believe they have found a legitimate target.

Information collected from honeypots can help improve defenses and develop more effective security measures.

There are different types, such as low-interaction honeypots (simulating limited services) and high-interaction honeypots (fully functioning environments).
