What is an Insider Threat?

Insider Threat
An insider threat refers to the risk posed by employees, contractors, or trusted partners who intentionally or unintentionally misuse their access to an organisation’s resources to harm the organisation.
Insider threats can take various forms, including data theft, sabotage, espionage, or accidental data leakage. Mitigating insider threats requires robust access controls, monitoring of user activity, and ongoing education on security policies.
Insider threats are particularly challenging to manage because the individuals involved already have authorised access to the organisation’s systems.
